By: E&P Staff The Charles M. Schulz Museum in Santa Rosa, Calif., will celebrate its fifth anniversary tomorrow with an evening party that includes live music and free cake.
Meanwhile, the museum is holding an exhibit -- running through Nov. 12 -- that focuses on its 2002-opened building.
The museum will also mark its fifth anniversary with several other summer and fall events.
For instance, there's a "Cartoonist Open House and Sketch-a-Thon" this Saturday featuring more than a dozen artists. Some of their work drawn that day will become part of the museum's permanent collection.
Also on Saturday, there will be docent?led tours of the museum and property.
This Sunday, a costumed "Joe Cool" will be at the museum, which is holding a "Snoopy: Not Just a Cool Joe" exhibit through Sept. 17.
On Aug. 18, the second part of the "Peanuts Lives: A Tribute" exhibit will begin. That exhibit includes "Peanuts" tribute cartoons that ran in newspapers in May 2000 -- three months after Charles M. Schulz died. That evening, there will be a museum-members-only reception featuring remarks by Steve Benson, the Pulitzer Prize-winning editorial cartoonist for The Arizona Republic and Creators Syndicate.
Among the museum's fall events: appearances by self-syndicated "This Modern World" cartoonist Tom Tomorrow (Sept. 29), "Ballard Street" cartoonist Jerry
Van Amerongen of Creators (Oct. 20), "Mutts" cartoonist Patrick McDonnell of King Features Syndicate(Oct. 27), and Oakland Tribune editorial cartoonist
Steve Lait (Dec. 8).
"Peanuts" reruns by Schulz (1922-2000) continue to be syndicated to more 2,000 newspapers by United Media.
