By: Joe Strupp "Peanuts at Bat," the next scheduled exhibit at the ToonSeum in Pittsburgh, will display strips and artifacts chronicling Charlie Brown's ups and downs in comic strip baseball.
"The Peanuts Gang?s ill-fated baseball games were based, to a large extent, on Peanuts creator Charles M. Schulz?s childhood experiences playing sandlot baseball," a release states about the exhibit. "Baseball was Schulz?s favorite childhood sport, but he remembered losing a game once 40 to 0. This game, he said, gave him the idea for Charlie Brown?s string of losses."
The exhibit, set to open April 4, also includes elements provided by the Charles M. Schulz Museum and Research Center of Santa Rosa, Calif.
?Charlie Brown holds the record for the longest losing streak,? ToonSeum Executive Director, Joe Wos said in a statement. ?While Pittsburgh is used to celebrating its sports champions, it seems especially appropriate that we should celebrate this loveable loser for the opening of this baseball season in Pittsburgh.?
Forty-three digital prints from the original Schulz drawings will be on display spanning five decades of Peanuts and the national pastime.
