By: E&P Staff Operating triplewide manroland Colorman XXL presses, Newsprinters Knowsley, near Liverpool, England, took top honors and more at the spring 2009 Newspaper Awards in London.
The company won the Newspaper Printer of the Year Award for its work on The Times Literary Supplement. It also prints The Times and The Sunday Times, which were named National Newspaper of the Year and Weekend Newspaper of the Year. The Sunday Times also won for Most Outstanding Use of Color.
Awards director Gary Cullum praised Newsprinters Knowsley for its skill and the Times for its color and unmarked print quality. Newsprinters Knowsley's Colorman XXL consists of 25 satellite towers with five 4:7:7 folders and automatic reel handling.
A manroland Uniset singlewide machine at Mortens, in Horncastle, produces The Church Times, a weekly named Niche Market Newspaper of the Year, and which Cullum cited for "outstanding quality with good use of color, consistent reproduction and beautifully smooth tones."
