By: E&P Staff Capping the largest convention in its history Saturday in Washington D.C., The Online News Association presented its awards for General Excellence in Online Journalism to MSNBC.com, Roanoke.com, and The Center for Public Integrity.
"This is a huge honor," said MSNBC.com Editor in Chief Jennifer Sizemore was quoted as saying by her site. "The journalists at MSNBC.com are the best in the business, and now what they deliver to our readers every day has been recognized by the best in the industry."
NOLA.com also took a top honor, winning the newly established Knight Award for Public Service for its work during and after Hurricane Katrina. The $5,000 prize was created to recognizing online journalism that "makes a difference to people where they live." The award is funded by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. NOLA.com also took home the award for best breaking news coverage at a large site.
Other winners included SunHerald.com, Chicago Tribune, and Gulf Coast News. Below is a complete list of the winners.
