When Torstar Corp. announced Monday it would launch GTA Today, a
free commuter newspaper on Thursday, rival Sun Media Corp. sprang into
action. The next day, Sun Media said its free paper, FYI
Toronto, made its debut.

Both publications are aimed at young professionals riding city transit,
reportedly an untapped market by Toronto's four paid dailies: The
Toronto Sun, the National Post, The Globe and Mail, and the
Toronto Star.

Toronto's trains are about to become even more crowded: the Swedish

Modern Times Group is launching its own free Metro paper

Thursday.
