There has been running commentary on numerous blogs about the fact that the Obama campaign feels that the use of "yardage" or lawn signs for the candidate is not a particularly effective use of its resources -- to the dismay of many Obama supporters in local communities. In Monday's Swamp blog, John McCormick reports that the Obama campaign sent out an e-mail to supporters saying it would have an Obama-Biden yard sign available to them by Friday, Oct. 17, "so you'll have plenty of time to show off your support and remind your friends and neighbors to vote for Barack," that is if you have your donation of $15 in before Tuesday's September fund-raising deadline.

More than the Dow Jones Industrial Average crashed after today's failure of the financial sector bill to pass the Congress, according to Easha Anand of the Washington Wire. The House of Representatives Web site crashed as a result of too much traffic after the failure of the rescue bill in the Congress. As of 5 p.m. ET Monday the Web site remained down, as were the Web sites of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D.-Ca.) and House Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank (D.-Ma.). Since early afternoon, the House of Representatives switchboard's automated response told callers that all circuits were busy.

This time Palin had McCain for company in sitting down with Katie Couric. Here was one exchange over her gaffe in advocating cross-border American attacks in Pakistan:

Ms. Couric asked Ms. Palin if she was sorry she had made the statement, but Mr. McCain jumped in.

?Wait a minute,? he said. ?Before you say, ?is she sorry she said it,? this was a ?gotcha? sound bite that, look ??

Ms. Couric said it was not a ?gotcha? moment and that the question was tossed out by a voter, not a journalist.

?No,? Mr. McCain said. ?She was in a conversation with a group of people and talking back and forth. And, I?ll let Governor Palin speak for herself.?

Ms. Palin said that Mr. McCain was ?absolutely right on.?
