The suspected plot to assassinate Barack Obama continues to unfold as authorities reported a fourth arrest -- and more details are expected to be released at a news conference today at 4 p.m. (Denver time), according to Andrew Malcolm at the L.A. Times' Top of the Ticket. The details thus far, according to the Ticket: "We knew then that authorities in suburban Aurora had stopped a pickup truck for swerving between lanes early Sunday morning in what they thought was a routine drunk driving incident. But in the rented vehicle of Tharin Gartrell, a 28-year-old convicted felon, they found two high-powered scoped rifles, ammunition, sighting scopes, radios, a cellphone, a bulletproof vest, wigs, drugs and fake IDs. According to Brian Masss of Denver's KCNC Channel 4, under questioning Gartrell implicated two other men -- Nathan Johnson, who is 32, and Shawn Adolph, who is 33 -- and Johnson's girlfriend, Natasha Gromack. ? U.S. Atty. Troy Eid declined to elaborate on Monday but said there is no credible threat to the party's convention or to the freshman Illinois senator, who was campaigning in Kansas City Monday and traveling to Montana today."

McCain and Jay Leno Joke About His Age
The Trail
The Washington Post
By Michael D. Shear

"Bowing to the inevitability that Jay Leno would crack jokes about his age, Sen. John McCain came armed with one of his own. 'I've got one,' McCain told Leno during a taped appearance on the Tonight Show, which will air tonight. 'My social security number is eight,'" according to Michael D. Shear at The Washington Post's The Trail. Apparently Leno apologized to McCain -- not for the age-related jokes -- rather for not having a birthday cake for him. Leno's reasoning? "The fire marshal said that many candles ?" Indeed, McCain turns 72 years young on Friday.

The Kennedy Tribute

The Boston Globe
By Jason Tuohey

At the DNC last night, the Dems unveiled a video tribute to Senator Edward Kennedy. The piece, now available for viewing at the Boston Globe's Political Intelligence and created by filmmakers Ken Burns and Mark Herzog, preceded Kennedy's speech. Here's a description of Kennedy's appearance, according to Jason Tuohey at Political Intelligence: "Senator Edward M. Kennedy made a surprise appearance (last night) at the Democratic National Convention, bringing delegates to their feet -- and many to tears. Battling brain cancer, Kennedy walked on stage giving a thumbs up and looking out over a sea of cheering delegates waving blue-and-white Kennedy placards."

100 Protesters Taken to Temporary Center
Politics West
The Denver Post

In more news from the DNC, The Denver Post's Politics West says that "about 100 protesters were being processed early today at Denver's temporary processing center in a former warehouse. ? Depending on their charges, they should be processed by 4 a.m. or 5 a.m., said Capt. Frank Gale of the Denver Sheriff's Office." According to Politics West, "Protesters and police had originally lined up across from one another in front of City and County Building about 7 p.m., the police wearing their full riot gear and holding batons, chanting 'move back, move back.' Police used pepper spray before the mass of marchers moved back across the park and were cut off by police behind the Sheraton Hotel. One protester said police had used the spray 'like a supersoaker' in front of the City and County Building."
