527 or WD40 and Out?
The Fix
The Washington Post
Chris Cillizza

Cillizza notes the increasingly negative campaign (coming largely form McCain) and the lesser role played by outside "527" groups: "Given McCain's slippage in recent state and national polls and the increased focus on economic matters over the last few weeks, the only path currently available to the Arizona Senator is to raise questions about Obama's character and readiness for office. Without some sort of outside group to carry that water, McCain must push the attack on his own -- in the process risking the possibility that voters will simply turn their back on him due to the personal nature of the attacks.

"The silver lining for McCain is that there are still 29 days before the November election, and all it takes is for one affluent donor to write a $10 million check to launch a group that can take the character fight to Obama. But, the clock is ticking."

Palin for 2012
Washington Wire

After Sarah Palin showed that she wasn't a complete flog in the VP debate it suggests that people start talking Palin for 2012. A willingness to stand by her conservative principles on things such as gay marriage and do it with a smile (and even a wink ma)....and if McCain loses she can spend the next four years beefing up on a few issues, before hitting the road as "presidential" material for the GOP in four years. Needless to say, she will have extremely high name recognition regardless of the outcome for McCain and she might have "managed to keep her star ascendant for a party that may well be looking for a new face to lead it on Nov.5."

Trucker Chapel: "One as bad as the other
The Caucus
New York Times
By Jennifer Steinhauer

While traversing the country chatting with voters about the presidential campaign, NY Times' journalists came across an unemployed Michael Regan who volunteers at one of the 111 trucker chapels across the country. This one in Laramie, Wyo., is located in a truck stop and gets about 15 truckers who visit each week. Regan found that truckers come to the chapel in order to talk about politics and to worship. Being away from home, high fuel prices and many "returning to the Lord" are some of the reasons, according to Regan, that the truckers come by. On politics and the presidential election, Regan says that some truckers say Obama is great and others say McCain is great and he can't get a balance on it one way or another?the only consensus he has heard is that," one is as bad as the other." The main issue for the truckers who visit the chapel is fuel prices. Regan says he encourages unity in faith, rather than contention hoping that faith can bring us together as a people.

Palin's puzzeling credentials for VP debate
Top of the Ticket
Los Angeles Times
By Robin Abcarian

Credentials for those national reporters traveling with Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin were unusual for the VP debate t last week, we now learn. On the front was a crossword puzzle and on the back was a list of clues all related to the VP debate event itself?Among the clues, according to Robin Abcarian are Todd (four letter word for "First Dude"), debate,(six letter word meaning discussion of opposing views) and lipstick(difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull)? and others.

Palin introduced by NOW official
By Robin Abcarian

At her Carson, Ca. rally on Saturday, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin was introduced by Shelly Mandell, President of the National Organization for Women-L.A. Chapter who received a chorus of boos when she mentioned her affiliation with the "D" word. Palin mentioned that one can be progressive and conservative and then quoted or rather misquoted, according to Abcarian and Scott Conroy of CBS News, another well known woman with "D" alongside her name Madeleine Albright. "It's kind of providential yesterday what happened to me, I am reading on my Starbucks mocha cup the quote of the day? there is a place in hell reserved for women who don't support other women." Palin got the quote slightly wrong? It should go: "there is a place in hell reserved for women who don't help other women." Albright herself has now protested. And isn't that mocha from Starbucks kind of ....elite?

Negative attacks by Palin attack used "Eastern Elite" sources
The Trail
Washington post
By Jliet Eilperin

With only a month to go in the Presidential election and the race becoming increasingly adversarial, the "eastern elite establishment?" is again in the news, this time being used for GOP election fodder. At a fundraiser in Englewood, Colorado, Palin cited an article from the Sunday's New York Times as evidence that Obama is willing to "pal around" with terrorists who targeted their own country. The article was referring to William Ayers one of the founding members of the Weather Underground who once served on a charitable board with Obama in Chicago and who hosted a coffee for Obama's first bid for the state Senate.
