Transcontinental to Install Schur at Transmag Facility

By: Meg Campbell Canadian printing and publishing giant Transcontinental will install palletizing and related postpress equipment manufactured by Denmark's Schur Packaging Systems at its Transmag newspaper printing plant in Montreal.

Schur will install three Winrob III palletizing systems with PSW stretch film wrappers, six A 600 stacker tie lines, six UP 660 bottomwrappers and two BAL 440 bundle labelers. The company will also supply three lines of its high-speed TGG 3160 press gripper to transport printed products from the press.

Transcontinental is in the process of converting the Transmag plant to a state-of-the-art newspaper printing facility which will be used for contract printing and to produce many of Transcontinental?s daily and weekly publications. The company has announced it is investing $60 million in new equipment for the plant, including a MAN Roland CIC 8 web press with full color capacity, as well as a new ultra violet (UV) dryer. The plant is due to come online in 2009.
