By: E&P Staff Tribune Co. said Tuesday its October revenue fell 9.3% to $383 million.
October publishing revenue was off 7.9%, dropping to $287 million from $311 million in the year-ago period 10 ended Oct. 28.
Overall advertising revenues fell 10.6% to $222 million.
Classified advertising revenues plunged19.2% on huge declines in real estate of 26.9%. Real estate was down in its major markets, Tribune said, including Florida, Los Angeles, and Chicago.
Help wanted also dropped big, down 21.7%.
Tribune said its retail ad revenues were down 7.8% on big decreases in department stores, amusements, and electronics categories, partially offset by an increase in the health care category.
Interactive revenues, mostly included in classified results, were up 11.4% to $22 million.
Circulation revenues were down 6.3% on slower single-copy sales, and continued selective discounting in home delivery, Tribune said.
Tribune's broadcasting and entertainment group revenues in October were $96 million, down 13.3% on lower revenues from its television group and the Chicago Cubs.
