By: E&P Staff Tribune Co. Web sites appeared to be operating normally Friday morning after experiencing severe technical problems Thursday afternoon, with several sites down and others displaying brief messages about the problem.
"This afternoon the primary systems at our newspaper and television station Web sites experienced technical difficulties," said company spokeswoman Christine Hennessey late Thursday. "We have switched to secondary systems and, along with our hosting providers, are actively investigating the cause of these problems."
On Friday morning, another spokesman said, "Our sites are back up, restored to full functionality at 11 p.m. last night. We're investigating the problem, along with our hosting providers." He said more details may be available later on Friday.
Visitors to chicagotribune.com and newsday.com on Thursday were advised to "Please check back in a few minutes." At latimes.com, the headlines and first graphs of five Associated Press stories were the only content available. Also down or only providing limited content were The Sun of Baltimore, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel of Fort Lauderdale, and The Hartford (Conn.) Courant.
OrlandoSentinel.com didn't appear to be affected.
