By: E&P Staff Miami-based Quipp Systems sold four Quipp Packman systems to Tribune Direct for use at its main production plant in Northlake, Ill.
The national direct-marketing company, which delivers direct mail and shared mail TMC products to consumers, has facilities in seven major locations across the country, corresponding to most of its major newspaper.
The company's suburban-Chicago facility distributes nearly six million TMC packages and 5.7 million solo mail packages weekly. Its four Packman systems will begin replacing obsolete stacking equipment to improve productivity and TMC product quality. The new systems interface with both GMA and Goss equipment, allowing for accurate postal carrier-route bundle breaks while minimizing bundle-building labor.
Of the 60 Packman systems it has sold, Quipp has installed 16 in Florida, including the first two at Florida Today, Melbourne, two more each at The Villages Daily Sun, Tampa Tribune and Pensacola News Journal, and four at the Orlando Sentinel.
Based on Quipp stacker and bottomwrapper technology, the system stacks, wraps, prints and strap in a single operation, maintaining bundle integrity by containing bundles throughout the process.
