By: E&P Staff The Chicago Tribune Foundation announced today that it has donated $105,000 in grants to 22 non-profit civic and cultural organizations in the Chicagoland area.
It was not revealed how much was donated to each organization, but grants in the "civic area" totaling $20,000 were made to the United Negro College Fund and Jump Start for Young Children.
The other $85,000 was divided among 20 programs from organizations that provide "educational programs in the arts for children from low-income communities or that foster diverse art." Those groups included The Chicago Children's Choir, theater group the Pegasus Players, the Jazz Institute of Chicago, the Luna Negra Dance Theater, and the Chinese Fine Arts Society.
"The Chicago Tribune's commitment to education and literacy extends beyond the reach of our news products," Janet Dobbs, board member of the Tribune Foundation and Tribune director of communications and development, said in a statement. "The foundation supports arts education through in-school and after-school programs that bring creative and diverse learning opportunities to low-income children."
