By: E&P Staff With Tribune set to go private within a few days, Standard & Poor's is removing the stock from its S&P 500 Index with the close of trading Thursday.
Tribune (NYSE: TRB, for now) is expected to complete the $8.2 billion going-private deal engineered by Chicago real estate mogul Sam Zell on Thursday or soon after, pending some final approvals.
S&P said Tribune will be replaced on the 500 by Range Resources, a Fort Worth, Texas, company engaged in the exploration, development and acquisition of domestic oil and gas properties.
