By: Chicago's Tribune Co. introduced integrated print and online job listings this week at the
Orlando (Fla.)
Sentinel and
The Hartford (Conn.)
Courant. Called CareerBuilder FlexAds, the new advertising product will roll out to Tribune's nine other newspapers later this year.
The print ads include a Web ID code that, when entered in a Web browser, link to the online job posting including a full job description on CareerBuilder. Employers may purchase the ads online, through newspapers' call centers, or through recruitment advertising agencies.
Tribune Classified Services Vice President/Recruitment Craig Besant said the company tested the new FlexAds at the
Courant since April. He said 35% of that newspaper's print recruitment advertisers were switching to the new product. "It's clear that employers recognize the efficacy and value in an integrated approach," he said in a statement.
The FlexAds are enabled by technology created by AdStar of Marina del Rey, Calif.
Chicago-based CareerBuilder offers online recruitment technology to newspapers. The company is jointly owned by Tribune and Knight Ridder, San Jose, Calif.
