Tribune Co. and Times Mirror Co. announced Friday that they are considering the sale
of Times Mirror subsidiary Jeppesen, a flight information services company. The move
was expected by some analysts, who said the merged companies would likely jettison
divisions that don't fit into the core businesses.

In a statement, Tribune Chairman John W. Madigan said, 'As a result of our pending
merger with Times Mirror, we are focused on our core businesses of broadcasting,
publishing, and interactive.' Some analysts have also speculated the combined company
might get rid of Times Mirror Magazines, which publishes Field & Stream, Popular
Science, and other titles.

Jeppesen generated about $235 million in 1999 revenues. Founded in 1934, it serves all
U.S. airlines. Jeppesen became part of Times Mirror in 1961.
