Tribune's 'RedEye,' 'Hoy' Redesign With Cutdowns

Posted
By: E&P Staff RedEye, the Chicago Tribune's youth-oriented daily, launched a redesign Monday that coincides with a web cutdown that trims 1 1/2 inches from the height of the tabloid.

The redesign includes a new logo. The stylized "i" form remains, but the capital "R" has been downsized to a small "r."

In a note to readers, RedEye Editor Jane Hirt said the page size "is now more compact to make the paper easier to handle on the bus or "L," or on the treadmill, or in class."

The paper's typeface was changed to Stag Sans, and in general the pages are opened up with a more airy look.

Last week, Hoy, the Tribune Co.'s Spanish-language daily, introduced its new cutdown size with some design changes, including new typeface for section heads and a lighter typeface for briefs.
