By: E&P Staff The News-Press & Gazette Co. purchased the Daily Star-Journal in Warrensburg, Mo., for an undisclosed sum. The transaction also included the Star Advertiser.
The Tucker family has owned the daily Star-Journal for more than 50 years. Avis G. Tucker and her husband William Tucker bought the 4,500-circulation newspaper in the 1940s. Avis has served as publisher since 1966 after William's death.
The families of Henry and David Bradley own the News-Press & Gazette Co. (NPG). Based in St. Joseph, Mo., the company operates several publications in Missouri and Kansas as well as cable and TV stations.
"We have always admired how Mrs. Tucker has served the Warrensburg area with her newspaper as well as the many things she has accomplished for Missouri," David Bradley, president of NPG, said in a statement. "We look forward to carrying on that tradition."
NPG expects to name a publisher to replace Tucker.
