By: E&P Staff In the larger media world, conservative institutions are rallying to defend New York Times reporter Judith Miller, while liberal commentators go on the offensive. Readers too, seem to view the reporter's actions through a partisan prism. So where are all the moderates?

Miller's Memory MemeI find it interesting that Ms. Miller can remember a conversation she had with Jill Abramson with regard to her report and source on the Wilson story. Since her memory seems to be so keen, this just proves that she lied to the Grand Jury when she told them she did not know how the name "Valerie Flame" came to be in her notebook. One other note, many of us realize that all one needs to do to change a P to an F is merely delete the quarter dome of that letter. It was a good try, but come on.

Judy in the Sky with DiamondsWhy doesn't the NYT fire Judy Miller? Simple. It's cheaper to keep her.
Who knows what lies she'll spread about her former employers if they refuse to continue footing her legal bills when she likely still faces possible indictment?

What the Times is doing only, sadly, furthers their fall from grace in the eyes of all Americans who are fair-minded. How dare they accuse Ms. Miller of things they have no truth about and it is clear after reading the Bill Keller e-mail that the Times has one agenda to bury the Bush White House. I wonder how Ms. Miller would be treated if she were protecting a source in a hypothetical Kerry White House?

Seems like the good old boys (and good old gals) at the NY Times don't like Ms. Miller anymore. The question is why? Probably something about her politics they don't like. Also, the fact is that most Americans are totally bored by the whole Valerie Plame (blame game) thing and realize that the media are trying a media coup, under false accusations. What a bunch of McCarthyites the elites in the media have become. It appears that our media is really the ones who needs some re-tooling.

One thing that appears lost in this muddle, almost enough to make the Abbott & Costello comedy routine appear as a serious drama, is the question of whether Plame was really "outed," or revealed by Rove, Libby and whomever! According to information published on the Internet and in print media, Plame was inadvertently "outed" in '99 by the CIA itself, brought home, and given a desk job while remaining employed in a non-covert capacity at the CIA. This occurred six years after her covert cover was blown, and the statute is five years. Therefore, mentioning Plame's name in any capacity is no different than mentioning the name of the front desk receptionist as also an employee of the CIA!
It is therefore puzzling as to "who's on first' what's on second" etc. regarding the entire flap that is more of a political nature than any form of breach of security or whatever. Everyone running around, flapping their arms and lips in the media etc. reminds me of the famous Keystone Kops comedies of the past; everyone running around, chasing each other, and nothing is accomplished.

White House Orders Satirical Paper 'The Onion' to Stop Using Presidential SealGeorge Bush says, "it's MY presidential seal and you can't use it!" I suppose that's the way it has been since Mr. B took (stole?) office. "My army, my congress, my treasury, my country, my oil, but my responsibility?" No way in hell!
