'Tundra' Comic Strip a Hit in Oregon Newspaper

Posted
By: E&P Staff "Tundra" -- a "guest comic" tested since early March by The Register-Guard of Eugene, Ore. -- is now a permanent strip in the paper after readers almost unanimously supported it.

"In fact, the positive comments have been far greater than for any of the previous seven strips we've tested in the past 16 months," stated the Eugene daily.

"Tundra" will continue to run in the same location on The Register-Guard's daily comics pages but will lose the "guest comic" label. And the "guest comic" feature will disappear for now, but the paper expects to bring it back in the future.

The 1991-launched "Tundra" takes a skewed look at nature and its quirky inhabitants. It's self-syndicated to newspapers in the U.S. and Canada by Alaska-based cartoonist Chad Carpenter; last fall, King Features announced it had acquired the rights to distribute "Tundra" internationally.
