Connie Booker Winter, publisher of The Bowie (Texas) News twice-weekly, which she took over after her husband, James, died in 2003, was hit by a sport utility vehicle at about 4:30 the morning of May 30 and pronounced dead at the scene, acording to a report in The Wichita Falls, Texas, Times Record News.
According to the police report, Winter was walking her dogs near her home when she was struck at an intersection. The driver reported slowing as a dog ran in front of his vehicle, then looked away from the dog to see a woman crossing in front of him.
Police told the Times Record News that it appeared the driver was traveling below the speed limit.
