By: E&P Staff Two journalists accompanying a Canadian regiment in Afghanistan were injured by an improvised explosive device that blasted the armored vehicle they were riding in Wednesday.
Two soldiers were killed and another soldier was wounded in the explosion about 35 miles west of Kandahar city, Martin Ouellet of Canadian Press reported. An Afghan interpreter was also killed by the 6:20 p.m. blast.
State-run Radio-Canada reported its cameraman Charles Dubois, 29, had serious, but not life-threatening, leg injuries from the blast. Reporter Patrice Roy, 44, "was suffering from shock but otherwise fine," the news organization said. Both journalists were being treated.
They were accompanying the Quebec-based Royal 22nd, or Van Doos, regiment during its first major battle fighting Taliban insurgents in Afghanistan.
