Two 'My Cage' Comic Fan Contests Announced

Posted Monday, January 7, 2008 12:00 am

By: E&P Staff "My Cage" comic collaborators Ed Power and Melissa DeJesus today launched the "My Cage Writing Contest" and "My Cage Fan Art Contest," according to King Features Syndicate.

The winner of each fan contest will have their own character drawn into a "My Cage" comic -- and receive a print of the strip autographed by both cartoonists.

DeJesus and Power will judge the entries and announce the winners on or before Feb. 29. Contest entries must be posted before Feb. 10.

The contest is specifically for "My Cage" fans on the MySpace social-networking site. So entrants must be a member of the strip's "friends" list and/or a member of the comic?s MySpace group. But comics fans and "My Cage" readers who aren't members can still join the list and/or group.

"My Cage," which features young-adult animal characters, is a manga-influenced humor comic introduced last year by King.

And DeJesus is one of four 20-something syndicated creators profiled in E&P's current January 2008 print magazine.

What can a self-driving car teach news publishers about AI? Quite a lot, according to Guy Tasaka. How Dublin Inquirer uses legal risk assessments to keep accountability journalism moving

When Dublin Inquirer publishes a sensitive accountability story, the challenge isn’t just reporting the facts. It’s deciding whether a small, seven-person newsroom can afford the legal risks that sometimes come with telling the public what it needs to know. For editor and co-founder Sam Tranum and deputy editor Lois Kapila, those decisions once came down to late-night conversations and educated guesswork. Today, the independent Dublin newsroom relies on Reporters Shield’s Legal Risk Assessment service to help identify potential legal vulnerabilities before publication—allowing journalists to move forward with greater confidence while keeping important stories alive.
