By: E&P Staff Two East Texas newspapers, the Longview News-Journal and the Marshall News Messenger, have announced the launch of electronic editions, effective immediately.
The launch was announced over the weekend by Erik Buck, circulation director of both papers, which are owned by Cox Newspapers Inc.
The e-edition will consist of an exact replica (minus advertising inserts) of that day's paper in a PDF format. Individual pages can be printed or e-mailed and subscribers will have access to each day's edition for up to 30 days.
"This will give subscribers 24/7 access to the papers basically anywhere they are in the world where they have Internet service," Buck said in a statement. Other features of the e-edition include the ability for readers to access Web sites featured in ads. Buck also pointed out the convenience to the papers' mail subscribers.
"Many of our mail subscribers don't get their papers for between a day to three days after it's published," Buck stated."Now they can get it the same day."
Subscriptions to the e-edition of either the Longview News-Journal or the Marshall News-Messenger are $9.95 a month each. Combination subscriptions to both electronic editions are $11.95 a month.
"All people need to do is contact our customer service department, and we'll walk them through the process for signing up," Buck told the papers. "We think this will be really popular with the younger generation."
