U2 Can Be an Editor (Pro Bono?)

By: E&P Staff Is a beautiful day dawning at the Beeb, some time before New Year's Day?

The British Broadcasting Corp. has tapped U2 frontman Bono and Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York, to be guest editors on its flagship radio news program during the holiday season.

"I have to confess, I'm not a natural editor," Bono told the BBC, which might not surprise some U2 fans and foes.

Bono and Ferguson will be among five guest editors of "Today," a current affairs program with 6 million listeners.

As guest editor, the celebrities can choose their topics of coverage. Bono wants to highlight the global fight against poverty (though, who knows, he might also offer tips on dismantling atomic bombs); Ferguson plans to focus on motor neuron disease.

Among previous guest editors were Stephen Hawking and Radiohead.

Waymo’s model makes the case for AI, with measurable consumer benefits

What can a self-driving car teach news publishers about AI? Quite a lot, according to Guy Tasaka. How Dublin Inquirer uses legal risk assessments to keep accountability journalism moving

When Dublin Inquirer publishes a sensitive accountability story, the challenge isn’t just reporting the facts. It’s deciding whether a small, seven-person newsroom can afford the legal risks that sometimes come with telling the public what it needs to know. For editor and co-founder Sam Tranum and deputy editor Lois Kapila, those decisions once came down to late-night conversations and educated guesswork. Today, the independent Dublin newsroom relies on Reporters Shield’s Legal Risk Assessment service to help identify potential legal vulnerabilities before publication—allowing journalists to move forward with greater confidence while keeping important stories alive.
