By: E&P Staff Douglas Edwards has been appointed chief executive officer of Andrews McMeel Universal's (AMU) uclick division, effective June 2.
The announcement was made by John P. McMeel and Hugh T. Andrews, who are respectively chairman/president and executive vice president of AMU -- also the parent of Universal Press Syndicate.
Edwards is co-founder of the Handmark mobile-media company. AMU's uclick is the digital-content provider and packager/distributor of comics and word games on the Web and mobile phones.
The 2000-established Handmark is a developer and distributor of mobile games and applications for devices including BlackBerry, Palm Treo, Symbian, and more. Edwards was one of the architects behind the creation of the company's flagship mobile service -- the 2004-launched Pocket Express.
