By: E&P Staff Tokyopop's latest Sunday serialized manga feature will be offered to newspapers starting Jan. 6 by Universal Press Syndicate.
"Undertown" follows the adventures of 10-year-old Sama, a boy so saddened by his father's failing health that he crawls under his bed with his teddy bear. The two tumble through a magical portal and find themselves in the mysterious realm of Undertown. They then embark on a journey to discover Undertown's secrets and locate an enchanted object that might help save Sama's father.
The feature's storyline will follow that of the popular "Undertown" release from the Scholastic children's-book publisher. But while kid-friendly, "Undertown" is geared more toward young adults than previous Tokyopop features such as "Peach Fuzz."
Tokyopop is the largest English-language publisher of features in the popular manga style. Its comics have appeared in about 50 U.S. and international newspapers, including the Los Angeles Times, the Chicago Tribune, The Boston Globe, and the South China Morning Post.
