'Undertown,' 'Stone Soup' Cut from 'L.A. Times' Sunday Comics

By: E&P Staff "Stone Soup" and "Undertown" did not make the cut when The Los Angeles Times reduced its Sunday comics section from eight pages to six this weekend.

"Stone Soup," created by Jan Eliot, and "Undertown," a manga-style comic written by Jim Pascoe and illustrated by Jake Myler, are both syndicated by Universal Press Syndicate.

On the blog of Times Reader Representative Jamie Gold, Assistant Managing Editor Alice Short said the comics section was reconfigured to reduce newsprint costs.

"Nonetheless, I'm happy to report that Michael Whitley, the Times assistant managing editor for design, has skillfully redesigned the pages in a manner that has allowed us to retain every cartoon except 'Undertown' and 'Stone Soup.' Short said. "The Kids' Reading Room, kids' book reviews and the kids' crossword puzzle will continue as well. The daily comics pages will remain the same."
