Universal Co-launching Spanish-Language Newspaper

Posted
By: Dave Astor A weekly Spanish-language newspaper will be launched this fall by Universal Press Syndicate and Danilo Black of Monterrey, Mexico.

Fronteras de la Noticia will be available to U.S. newspapers, which can distribute it as an insert or sell the 32-page publication independently. Clients can co-brand Fronteras with their own mastheads, sell ads for the full-color newspaper, and add as many as four pages of local stories. Fronteras will include news, feature, sports, and entertainment stories from Mexico, Central America, and South America.

"Danilo Black understands the Latino market and knows how to provide the proper blend of news and features from Latino readers' home countries," said Kerry Slagle, president of Atlantic Syndication, the international division of Universal. Slagle will serve as co-managing director of Fronteras with Danilo Black CEO Roberto Madero. The newspaper's other executives include Creative Director Eduardo Danilo, Editor-in-Chief Dante Parma, and General Manager Kent Kirschner.

Potential Fronteras clients, said Kirschner, include newspapers whose communities are at least 15% Latino or have more than 20,000 Latino residents.
