Universal Columnists Collaborate on Cat and Dog Books

Posted Thursday, August 30, 2007 12:00 am

By: E&P Staff "Pet Connection" columnists Gina Spadafori and Dr. Marty Becker of Universal Press Syndicate have authored two more books, both due out in October from HCI.

One is "MeowWOW!: Curiously Compelling Facts, True Tales, and Trivia Even Your Cat Won't Know." The other is "BowWOW!: Curiously Compelling Facts, True Tales, and Trivia Even Your Dog Won't Know."

The Molly Pearce-illustrated paperbacks are displayed in the current issue of Publishers Weekly with an article spotlighting the growing number of American households with pets -- and pet owners' appetite for pet-related products. The story also notes that many publishers offer pet books in pairs, with matching titles for cats and dogs.

Spadafori and Becker have also collaborated with Audrey Pavia and Teresa Becker on another book being released in October by HCI. It's titled "Why Do Horses Sleep Standing Up? 101 of the Most Perplexing Questions Answered About Equine Enigmas, Medical Mysteries, and Befuddling Behaviors."

What can a self-driving car teach news publishers about AI? Quite a lot, according to Guy Tasaka. In his September E&P “Tasaka’s Tech Talk” op-ed, he argues that publishers should stop framing AI primarily as a way to cut costs and instead demonstrate how it delivers measurable benefits to readers and advertisers. How Dublin Inquirer uses legal risk assessments to keep accountability journalism moving

When Dublin Inquirer publishes a sensitive accountability story, the challenge isn’t just reporting the facts. It’s deciding whether a small, seven-person newsroom can afford the legal risks that sometimes come with telling the public what it needs to know. For editor and co-founder Sam Tranum and deputy editor Lois Kapila, those decisions once came down to late-night conversations and educated guesswork. Today, the independent Dublin newsroom relies on Reporters Shield’s Legal Risk Assessment service to help identify potential legal vulnerabilities before publication—allowing journalists to move forward with greater confidence while keeping important stories alive.
