By: E&P Staff Cathy Kirkland, director of digital feature services at Universal Press Syndicate, has been invited by the Library of Congress to participate in a national planning effort for the long-term preservation of digital content.
Universal said Kirkland will attend a strategic planning session on April 7 in Los Angeles.
Others on the committee include representatives from the Associated Press, Getty Images, the Warner Music Group, Sony Pictures, the Society of Motion Picture and Television, and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences.
The Library of Congress is working with the commercial sector to develop solutions for preserving creative works, particularly those "born digital." That term refers to content -- including some comics and editorial cartoons -- that never existed in any form other than digital.
