By: E&P Staff Universal Press Syndicate this August will launch "In the Sticks," a new comic strip by Nathan Cooper that centers on a former golf pro who inherits the Blooming Dogleg Country Club, a nearly bankrupt course populated by three very odd animals that attempt to help him keep the club running.

The strip, tentatively set to debut Aug. 10 for dailies and Aug. 16 for Sundays, features Del, the unibrowed protagonist who is aided by a blue jay named Cosmo, a naive, sweet bear named Dewey who tries to serve as a caddy when he knows nothing about golf, and a beaver named Flip.

Its creator, Nathan Cooper, is a native of the small town of Everett, Pa., and graduated from Penn State University with a degree in Sociology. He also holds a degree in Graphic Arts.

What can a self-driving car teach news publishers about AI? Quite a lot, according to Guy Tasaka. How Dublin Inquirer uses legal risk assessments to keep accountability journalism moving

When Dublin Inquirer publishes a sensitive accountability story, the challenge isn’t just reporting the facts. It’s deciding whether a small, seven-person newsroom can afford the legal risks that sometimes come with telling the public what it needs to know. For editor and co-founder Sam Tranum and deputy editor Lois Kapila, those decisions once came down to late-night conversations and educated guesswork. Today, the independent Dublin newsroom relies on Reporters Shield’s Legal Risk Assessment service to help identify potential legal vulnerabilities before publication—allowing journalists to move forward with greater confidence while keeping important stories alive.
