"Georgie Anne's tireless commitment to uncovering truth and informing her readership has earned her a reputation as one of the finest journalists in print,? Universal Uclick CEO/Editor Lee Salem said in a statement. ?We congratulate her for this latest award recognizing her outstanding achievements."
The Daniel Pearl award was established by the CJA in 2002 in memory of the Wall Street Journal correspondent who was kidnapped and murdered in Pakistan in 2001.
Geyer, who speaks Spanish, Portuguese, German, and Russian, writes a twice-weekly syndicated column for Universal Uclick. In 1973, she was the first Westerner to interview then-Iraqi president Saddam Hussein, and she has also interviewed Yasser Arafat, Anwar Sadat, King Hussein, Moammar Gadhafi, and Ayatollah Khomeini. She has written a number of books, including 1993?s ?Guerilla Prince,? a biography of Fidel Castro, which was later adapted into a TV movie.
