By: Joel Davis Sacramento Bee Had Sought Records
The University of California at Davis does not have to release police reports on
sexual assaults and other incidents at the university's medical center, as they
are not public records, a judge has ruled.
State Superior Court Judge Talmadge R. Jones found that university police
reports are exempt from California's Public Records Act. The Sacramento
Bee argued that the university is obliged to release the reports for reasons
of public interest.
Bee Executive Editor Rick Rodriguez said the paper has not decided
whether it will appeal the ruling.
