By: E&P Staff An upcoming book featuring the work of late editorial cartoonist Bill Mauldin was previewed yesterday on Tom Spurgeon's Comics Reporter blog.
"Willie & Joe: The WWII Years" is due out this February from Fantagraphics.
Mauldin (1921-2003) used his Willie and Joe characters to comment on World War II through the eyes of average soldiers. The WWII veteran won a 1945 Pulitzer Prize for those United Feature Syndicate-distributed cartoons, and won another Pulitzer in 1959 while with the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Mauldin, who also worked for the Chicago Sun-Times, was syndicated by King Features for much of his career.
Spurgeon's take on the two-volume book is accompanied by cartoons, links, and a biographical information about Mauldin.
