By: Joe Strupp It seems that Former Chicago Sun-Times sports columnist Jay Mariotti is not joining the Chicago Tribune, despite a report to the contrary by Web site Sports By Brooks.
Mike Kellams, the Tribune's associate managing editor for sports, told E&P Monday that Mariotti -- who left the Sun-Times a year ago and claimed at the time newspapers were "dying" -- is not joining his paper.
"It is not true," he said in a message to E&P after being sought for comment on the Sports By Brooks posting. "We are not talking to Jay Mariotti about being a columnist here. I don't know what their sourcing was, but from where I'm sitting, it is not true."
Sports By Brooks
contended in a recent posting that Mariotti will join the Tribune Sept. 1 as a weekly columnist, and says he even has a voice mail set up there.
"Sports By Brooks did not call me," Kellams added. "But I have been very popular today with a lot of other calls. I told them all the same thing. It is not true."
