By: E&P Staff Even more interested parties (we reproted on the first revelations yesterday) have come forward to kick the tires of The San Diego Union-Tribune.
Thomas Kupper, a staff writer at the paper, reports that representatives from Ron Burkle's investment firm Yucaipa Cos. -- where former Los Angeles Times Publisher Jeffrey Johnson landed -- and Stephens Media received information about the San Diego Union-Tribune. Additionally, Michael McKinnon owner of KUSI/Channel 51 is also involved in a possible bid and is reportedly trying to round-up local investors for backing.
Yesterday, Randy Dotinga reported in the Voice of San Diego that the New York Times, Tribune, MediaNews Group, and Black Press have expressed interest in the property.
Kupper speculates that MediaNews and Tribune could be buyers of the Union-Tribune since both companies have properties near San Diego.
