UPDATE: 'Politico' Launching New D.C. Site With Former 'Wash Post' Web Editor

Posted
By: Joe Strupp The company behind Politico is planning to launch a local Washington D.C news site and has brought in the former head of The Washington Post's Web site, Jim Brady, to run it.

The new operation is looking to staff the operation with about 50 hires.

The New Republic first reported that the site would focus on local D.C. metro issues and called it Politico owner Robert Allbritton's "most direct challenge to The Washington Post since launching Politico."

The TNR story added: "The new site will feature a mix of original reporting, aggregation, and GPS-map features. The site will cover D.C and the suburbs, and echo Politico's aggressive, scoop-oriented focus."

Brady and Politico executive editor Jim VandeHei both declined comment, the story added, but the report was confirmed on Wednesday.
