Boston.com has added three news sites to its "Your Town" community network: Danvers, Salem and Peabody, Mass., bringing to 25 the number of communities it covers.
As "digital town centers," Your Town sites offer localized news. The three towns are the first in greater Boston's north shore region to be served by Your Town sites. As in other cities and towns, local correspondents will work with Boston Globe and Boston.com staff to generate content on such topics as politics, crime statistics, school athletics and town events.
Readers can pay municipal bills online, access trash and recycling schedules and order parking permits, as well as upload personal photos and participate in discussions about civic issues. As summer approaches, announcements will include towns' updates on local activities.
The sites are a highly targeted advertising forum for small- to mid-size businesses within tightly drawn trading areas. Those with larger trading areas can advertise across several towns. Sponsorship opportunities also are available.
Users can access any site via the main www.boston.com/yourtown portal, where residents in communities not yet covered can request a hyper-local.
The hyper-local sites also include: discussion boards, event listings, high school sports features and schedules, traffic alerts and transportation information, interactive maps to report public works problems, real estate listings and current home values.
