'U.S. News' Collegiate Content Syndicated for First Time

By: E&P Staff Tribune Media Services is syndicating articles and tables from U.S. News & World Report's annual rankings of colleges and universities.

This is the first time the magazine is making content from its higher-education issue available for use in newspapers, said John Twohey, vice president for editorial and operations at TMS -- the licensing agent for USNWR material in the U.S. and abroad.

USNWR's guide to "America's Best Colleges" hits newsstands today, and TMS is offering newspapers the stories as a package or on an individual basis.

"This special issue is a core component of the U.S. News & World Report franchise," said Twohey. "It's one of the things for which the magazine is famous."

The stories being syndicated by TMS look at "'A-plus' schools for 'B' students," recent problems at prestigious Harvard University, parental involvement in the college-admissions process, and the most common financial-aid mistakes made by families. The material also includes lists of the top-20 universities and the top-20 colleges, and how to use these rankings.
