By: (AP) The United States has given Pakistan the results of DNA tests performed on a body believed to be that of slain
Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl, a U.S. Embassy official said Thursday.
John Kincannon, the embassy spokesman, said the information was handed to the Pakistan Interior Ministry. An official there said the U.S. test results would be compared to those done by Pakistani doctors.
An American official, speaking anonymously, said last week the U.S. tests confirmed that the body was Pearl's.
Pearl disappeared Jan. 23 in Karachi while researching links between Pakistani extremists and Richard C. Reid, arrested in December after allegedly boarding a Paris-to-Miami flight with explosives in his shoes.
The body was found in May in a shallow grave near a Karachi shed.
On July 15, a Pakistani court sentenced British-born Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, 28, to death in the kidnap-murder case. Three other defendants got life sentences.
All four defendants have appealed.
