USA Today has launched the USA Today Developer Network, a portal that provides USA Today "Application Programming Interfaces and a community for developers to discover content and build new applications for the web and digital platforms," Gannett's national newspaper announced.
USA Today partnered with Mashery, provider of API management and strategic services, to help launch the API.
"We invite developers to experience exciting new ways to tap into some of the great content that is unique to USA Today," Digital Development Vice President Steve Kurtz said in a statement. "We look forward to realizing some of the untapped potential of our content by reaching our audience in this promising new way."
Two APIs are available now on the Portal. The Best-Selling Books API allows developers to retrieve information about the USA Today books list, list history and metadata for individual books. The Professional Sports Salaries API offers data from USA Today's sports salaries database dating back more than 20 years.
Additional APIs will be released as USA Today begins to make more of its content available to the developers.
