USA Today appointed Brian Gallagher, 53, to executive editor, effective June 1. Gallagher will replace Bob Dubill, who is retiring.
Gallagher has served as editorial page editor for three years and has worked on efforts to define
USA Today's long-term objectives. He began his career in 1971 with Gannett newspapers in suburban New York, before moving to Gannett News Service in 1980, where he served as managing editor from 1983-1986.
"In recent years [Gallagher] has headed guidance teams aimed at improving the newspaper's content and presentation," said
USA Today Editor Karen Jurgensen in a statement.
Dubill's career began at The Associated Press in Trenton, N.J. He later joined the Gannett News Service and was assigned to
USA Today in 1982, where he served as national editor, managing editor of news, senior editor, and executive editor.
