By: E&P Staff USA Today has appointed two new vice presidents of circulation sales, Diane Barrett and Michael Davidson. Barrett will be responsible for education sales, while Davidson will be in charge of travel sales. Both were former directors of circulation at the paper.
"Throughout their careers at USA Today, Diane and Michael have proven to be exceptional leaders," said Larry Lindquist, senior vice president, circulation for the paper, in a statement. "They are both valuable members of USA Today's circulation sales team and we are fortunate to have them overseeing strategy in the education and travel areas."
Barrett joined the paper in 1984 selling retail and education programs in the New York region. In 1986, she was promoted to regional marketing manager. In 1991, she moved to McClean, Va., as director of national sales where she helped launch the national college newspaper readership program.
Davidson started working for the paper in 1985 in Kansas City where he was responsible for subscription marketing programs. He became circulation director of the Chicago office in 1989 and then as regional marketing director in 1995. He moved to headquarters in 1999 as director/national circulation sales.
Yesterday, USA Today announced it would raise its single-copy cover price from $.50 to $.75, the first increase since 1985. The paper has seen four price hikes. (When it started, it was priced at $.25 per copy, and became $.35 in 1984.)
