By: Coupon Giant Gets Minority Interest In Web Site

Valassis Communications Inc. announced yesterday it now has a minority interest in
Coupons.com.

Valassis will market the Coupons.com service to its customers and, in return, Coupons.com
will get content as early as third quarter 2000 from the newspaper-insert company.
Valassis also will use its proprietary two-dimensional barcode with Coupons.com to create
secure, Web-based, home-printed coupons.

Valassis has the option to increase its investment in Coupons.com during the next round of
financing.

Based in Livonia, Mich., Valassis specializes in newspaper-delivered inserts, advertising,
direct mail, and online promotions. Coupons.com, based in Palo Alto, Calif., delivers
coupons to subscribers over the Internet for in-store redemption.
