Vancouver, Wash., Paper Buying Nearby Weekly

By: E&P Staff The Columbian Publishing Co., publisher of The Columbian in Vancouver, Wash., is buying the weekly Camas-Washougal Post-Record from Eagle Newspapers, a Salem, Ore.-based chain, the daily reported.

No terms were disclosed. A Columbian story by staff writer Julia Anderson said the deal was expected to close Oct. 1. 

The Camas paper, published on Tuesday, has a paid circulation of 3,800 and a free distribution of 5,960, according to the 2004 Editor & Publisher International Year Book. The sale includes the paper's building in Camas.

According to the Columbian story, Eagle Newspapers is selling only the Post-Record newspaper and will move its commercial printing businesses and presses. The weekly will be printed in Vancouver by the Columbian, the story said. No reduction in the weekly's staff of 15 are expected and Mike Gallagher will continue as publisher, the story said. 

The Columbian has a circulation of 51,498, according to the most recent FAS-FAX report from the Audit Bureau of Circulations. Eagle Newspapers publishes two dailies, 13 weeklies and four specialty publications in Oregon, Washington and Idaho.
