'Vanity Fair' Editor Tells Newspapers to 'Swing for the Fences'

By: E&P Staff Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter seems to think he has the answer to the newspaper industry's problems.

Writing in the magazine's July issue, he states: "My suggestion to newspapers everywhere is to give the public a reason to read them again. ? Get on a big story with widespread public appeal, devote your best resources to it, say a quiet prayer, and swing for the fences."

He cites The Telegraph of London for doing so with its coverage of the expense scandal in Britain's House of Commons. Read it, here.
