By: E&P Staff Verified Audit Circulation is changing some of the requirements for newspaper and magazine circulation.
Effective Jan. 1, subscriptions and single copy sales will be considered qualified paid circulation at any price. Under the current rules, Verified requires a minimum payment of 25% of the stated price in order to count towards paid.
"These revised standards are in response to broader changes and trends that we are seeing in the industry," Verified CEO Tim Prouty said in a statement.
"Verified has always been able to recognize the value of circulation regardless of the price paid," Prouty added. "The publishing industry increasingly has required new definitions in the way that print and online audience measurements are conducted. We are confident that these revised standards will provide simpler yet more meaningful circulation data for publishers and advertisers."
The Audit Bureau of Circulations announced a similar move earlier this month during its
board meeting.
