Vermont Papers Launch State House Blog

By: E&P Staff (AP) The Rutland (Vt.) Herald and The Times Argus in Barre, Vt., will launch an expanded Internet presence tomorrow devoted to covering the State House.

The two papers share a capital bureau in Montpelier, the Vermont Press Bureau, which will produce content for the new site. Darren Allen, the bureau chief, will write the blog.

The new Web site will also feature breaking State House news comprehensive archive of legislative news. It will be prominently linked from both papers' home pages, at rutlandherald.com and timesargus.com.

Ernesto Burden, the new media director for the newspapers, said the blog "will be a great resource and a heck of a lot of fun for political junkies, news lovers and probably the legislators themselves." The blog, called "Hall Monitor," offers an inside perspective on Statehouse events.

"There are countless things that members of the press talk about informally with lawmakers, lobbyists and state officials, and it never gets communicated to our readers," Allen said in a statement. "With the blog, I am excited by the opportunity to let them in on the conversation."

The Web site will soon include an interactive forum so readers can post comments and reactions. In addition, reporters will file legislative news directly after it occurs.
