Veteran Journalist Returns to 'Holland Sentinel'

By: E&P Staff The Holland (Mich.) Sentinel has announced the return of journalist Peg McNichol to its newsroom after a two-year absence.

McNichol, a 20-year veteran of radio, magazine and newspaper journalism, returns to Holland from the Southeast Missourian of Cape Girardeau, Mo., where she had been a staff writer since 2007. She had previously been a staff writer at the Sentinel from May 2005 to June 2007.

"We will benefit tremendously from the depth of Peg?s watchdog experience on issues-oriented reporting on such public affairs issues as flooding, public health and regional politics," Pamela Fisher, the Holland Sentinel's editor, said in a statement.

McNichol placed first in the national Suburban Newspapers of America 2008 editorial awards for breaking news coverage and continuing coverage for stories on the Sunshine Law, a nickname for states? open meetings and records requirements for transparent government. She also received first and third place awards for breaking news coverage from the Missouri Associated Press Managing Editors.

In addition to her print work, McNichol has worked for several Michigan radio stations, and her work has been published in The Detroit News, The Daily Oakland (Mich.) Press, and The Macomb (Mich.) Daily.
